Milaidhoo

Opened in November 2016, Milaidhoo is an intimate boutique resort in Baa Atoll's UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, 126 kilometres northwest of Malé and close to Hanifaru Bay, famed for its seasonal gatherings of manta rays. The island measures just 300 by 180 metres: small, secluded, and wrapped in a protected house reef. A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Milaidhoo practices reinvented luxury, barefoot informality rooted in Maldivian tradition. Designed especially for couples and those seeking peace, it welcomes guests aged eight and above and enforces a strict no-drone policy. Destination weddings, engagements, and honeymoons are a specialty.

Accommodations & Design The 50 pool villas are designed by a renowned Maldivian architect to feel like private homes. Ocean and Beach residences feature retractable roofs and floor-to-ceiling windows that erase the boundary between living room and sea, in warm wood, stone, and coral. Every guest is assigned a dedicated Island Host to personalize each stay.

Amenities & Inclusions Dining: Three world-class restaurants make dining a highlight, led by Ba'theli by the Reef, the restaurant set on three traditional dhonis on pillars over the lagoon, serving Spice Route-inspired Maldivian cuisine, alongside regular wine-pairing dinners and events. Wellness: The Serenity Spa, an overwater sanctuary with four treatment suites and a sunrise yoga pavilion, plus overwater spa treatments and sunrise yoga classes. Guests can also join coral-planting workshops supporting the resort's reef restoration program. Marine: Hanifaru Bay, 15 minutes away, for manta rays and whale sharks from May to November; a PADI 5-star dive centre; resident marine biologists leading house-reef snorkeling; sunset dolphin cruises; sailing to a deserted sandbank for private beach picnics. Leisure: The Compass Pool Bar around a designer infinity pool that blends into the horizon.

How Private Is This Island? Privacy is intimate sovereignty. Villas are angled so neighbours cannot see into each other's pools or decks, the no-drone policy guarantees anonymity prized by high-profile guests, and the hushed, adult-calm atmosphere is by design. For grand gatherings, a full buyout turns the island into a 50-villa private fortress with the entire staff and the UNESCO reef dedicated to one group.
