Guana Island

Guana Island is a 850-acre sanctuary of rugged hills and sugar-sand beaches. Unlike many commercial islands in the BVI, Guana has remained largely undeveloped since the 1930s, operating as a private nature preserve. It is home to more flora and fauna than any island of its size in the Caribbean, including the endangered Stout Iguana and the flamingos of Salt Pond. With no public access allowed, the island offers an atmosphere of "old Caribbean" elegance—think understated luxury, no televisions in rooms, and a total focus on the natural environment.

Accommodations & Design The architecture is characterized by white-washed stone walls and red-tiled roofs, blending seamlessly into the hillside. The Sea-view Cottages are positioned along a high ridge to catch the trade winds, offering expansive views of both the Atlantic and the Caribbean. For more seclusion, the North Beach Villa is the only residence on the windward side of the island, offering a private pool and a totally "isolated" feel. Interiors are "shabby-chic" in the best sense—think high-end linens, open-air layouts, and organic textures.

Amenities & Inclusions Guana focuses on active wellness and "farm-to-table" dining long before it was a trend.

Gastronomy: The island features its own massive organic orchard and garden. Dining is often communal on the main terrace, but private "Castaway" lunches on one of the seven beaches are a highlight.

Leisure & Sport: Features two tennis courts (one Omni, one clay), a fleet of kayaks, Sunfish sailboats, and Hobie Cats. There is no traditional "spa" building; instead, treatments are performed in-room or at the "Garden of Eden" massage pavilion.

Hiking: Over 12 miles of well-maintained hiking trails range from easy tropical forest walks to the challenging climb up to Sugarloaf Mountain (806 ft) for 360-degree views.

Snorkeling: The waters around the island are a protected marine park, with Monkey Point offering some of the best snorkeling in the BVI.

How Private Is This Island? Privacy at Guana is a matter of strict policy and geography. Because the island is private property and does not host a public marina or restaurant, there is virtually zero outside foot traffic. Boaters are allowed to moor in the bays but are not permitted to come ashore, ensuring the seven beaches remain the exclusive domain of the 35 guests. For those seeking absolute sovereignty, the "Island Buyout" is a popular choice for weddings or multi-generational families, effectively turning 850 acres of Caribbean wilderness into a private personal kingdom.
