Porer Island

Porer is a tiny, circular rock just 80 meters wide, located 2.5 kilometers off the coast of Premantura. Built in 1833, the lighthouse is an architectural marvel of the Austro-Hungarian era, featuring a tower that rises 35 meters into the Adriatic sky. This is a destination for "lighthouse purists"—there is no vegetation, no soil, and no shade other than the building itself. Life on Porer is governed by the sea; at high tide or during storms, the spray can reach the windows, providing one of the most immersive maritime experiences in the Mediterranean.

Accommodations & Design The two apartments are located on the ground floor of the lighthouse’s stone base. The interiors are simple, clean, and functional, maintaining the historic character of the building with thick stone walls and basic wooden furniture. Both apartments include a kitchen, a small dining area, and a shower-bathroom. Due to the limited space on the islet, the apartments share a communal stone courtyard. Guests are advised that the lighthouse remains active, and the rotating light beam is a constant, rhythmic presence throughout the night.

Amenities & Inclusions Facilities on Porer are minimal, as the islet is essentially a rocky platform for the lighthouse.

Gastronomy: Entirely self-catering. The resident lighthouse keeper can sometimes assist in sourcing fresh fish from local fishermen who pass the rock, but all other provisions must be hauled in by the guest.

Swimming & Diving: Swimming is possible directly off the concrete boat landing, but the currents around Porer are exceptionally strong. It is recommended only for very experienced swimmers and only when the sea is calm.

Leisure: The primary activity is the "slow life"—watching the sun set over the open sea and observing the passing boat traffic heading toward the Kvarner Gulf.

Safety: The presence of a professional lighthouse keeper ensures technical support and weather monitoring, which is critical given the island's exposed position.

How Private Is This Island? Privacy at Porer is unique; while the islet is technically public, its tiny size and the difficulty of landing a boat mean that you rarely see anyone other than the other apartment guests and the keeper. There is nowhere to "go" on the island, so privacy is found within the thick stone walls of your apartment or on the shared terrace. For those seeking a total "ruler of the rock" experience, booking both apartments is essential. Once the transfer boat departs, you are left in a sovereign stone fortress, surrounded by nothing but the deep blue currents of the Adriatic.
