Pumpkin Island

Pumpkin Island is a pioneer of sustainable tourism in Australia. As a completely off-grid island powered by solar and wind, it offers a "barefoot luxury" experience that prioritizes the environment. It is the first and only carbon-neutral island in the country. The vibe is intentionally relaxed and unpretentious; it’s a place where families can safely explore tidal pools and couples can watch the sunset from their private decks without the interference of crowds or high-rise development.

Accommodations & Design The island features seven self-contained residences, each designed to capture the sea breezes and emphasize outdoor living.

The Cottages: Five timber-clad cottages, named after local flora and fauna, featuring full kitchens, private decks, and BBQ facilities.

Oceanfront Bungalows: Two smaller, more intimate units set directly above the high-tide mark, perfect for couples.

The Primary Suite (Island Guest House): While all units are private, the largest cottage—often used as the primary gathering point for buyouts—features the most expansive living area and a large deck overlooking the coral sea.

Design: Coastal-chic aesthetic with nautical accents, louvred windows for natural ventilation, and locally sourced furnishings.

Amenities & Inclusions Despite its eco-status, the island provides high-quality amenities for an active stay:

The Sunset Lounge: A communal area with a licensed bar (available for buyouts) and a large fire pit for evening gatherings.

Marine Activities: Unlimited use of glass-bottom kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and snorkeling gear. The fringing reef is accessible directly from the beach.

Oyster Picking: Guests are welcome to harvest fresh oysters from the rocks at low tide.

Leisure: Hammocks are dotted throughout the island, and a dedicated library of books and board games is available in the guest lounge.

How Private Is This Island? Privacy at Pumpkin Island is exceptional due to the limited number of guests. With a maximum capacity of only 34 people on 15 acres, you can always find a secluded stretch of sand. When booked as a full island buyout, the sense of ownership is absolute; the staff facilitates your stay then retreats to allow your group total autonomy. Access is strictly via the Pumpkin Xpress or private vessel, ensuring no day-trippers interrupt the sanctuary. It is a secure, water-locked environment where the focus remains entirely on the natural rhythm of the reef.
