Malolo Island Resort is an intimate, rustic-luxe destination built in the character of Fiji’s colonial past. Set on a 2,000-acre island within a protected marine reserve, it is one of the few resorts in the Mamanucas that is entirely owned by a local Fijian family. The property avoids the high-gloss aesthetic of international chains in favor of high-vaulted ceilings, hand-carved woods, and a "home away from home" atmosphere that focuses on authentic cultural immersion and environmental stewardship.
Accommodations & Design The resort features a "South Pacific beach cottage" design aesthetic. Each of the 46 bures is air-conditioned and features traditional tapa cloth accents and local hardwoods. The Tadra Beach Bures (Tadra meaning "Dream") are the crown jewels, situated at the most private end of the beach with four-poster beds and direct water access. For larger groups, the Family Bures provide two full bedrooms and two bathrooms, while the Island Bures offer a semi-open plan layout ideal for small families or couples seeking garden privacy.
Amenities & Inclusions Malolo offers a sophisticated dining and wellness program led by executive culinary teams.
Gastronomy: Three main venues including Treetops (fine dining, adults-only for breakfast/dinner), Terrace (family-style international), and the Beach Bar for casual sunset dining.
Tia’s Tree House: A complimentary kids' club (ages 4-12) featuring a structured program of Fijian language, crafts, and marine education.
Wellness: The newly renovated Leilani’s Spa is set in a tranquil rainforest garden, offering traditional Fijian Bobo massages and Ayurvedic treatments.
Marine & Adventure: Complimentary use of all non-motorized water sports (snorkeling, kayaking, sailing). The resort also operates its own private marine reserve at nearby Mocia Island.
How Private Is This Island? Privacy at Malolo is defined by its boutique scale and "resort-only" zones. While the island of Malolo itself is shared with its luxury sister property, Likuliku Lagoon Resort, and two local villages, the resort’s layout ensures guests feel secluded. The Tadra Bures offer total beachfront isolation at the far edge of the property. Because there are no day-trippers allowed in the accommodation wings, the atmosphere remains exceptionally quiet, governed by the natural sounds of the reef rather than the noise of modern technology.
