Treasure Island Eco Resort (Eueiki Island) is Tonga’s original off-grid sanctuary. Situated in the heart of a whale nursery, the resort offers one of the few places on Earth where you can hear the songs of Humpback whales directly from your bed. The resort operates with a philosophy of "harmony with nature," utilizing solar power for lighting and a sophisticated filtration system for rainwater. It is an "electronics-lite" destination; while charging stations are available in the main communal area, the fales are designed for a digital detox, allowing guests to sync with the natural rhythms of the South Pacific.
Accommodations & Design The resort consists of eight hand-crafted Tongan fales, each designed to maximize airflow through louvered windows and high thatched ceilings.
Beachfront Fales: These units sit directly on the sand, just feet from the turquoise lagoon. They feature king-sized beds that can be split into twins.
Garden Fales: Tucked slightly back into the tropical vegetation, these provide additional privacy and a sense of being deep within the island's interior.
The Primary Suite (Family Fale #4): The island’s largest accommodation, specifically designed for groups or families. It features a king-sized bed plus bunk beds, offering the most internal square footage and a spacious covered porch with panoramic views of the water.
Design: Authentic Tongan aesthetics featuring open timber frames, woven coconut leaf walls, and natural stone or tiled floors. Each fale is equipped with an en-suite bathroom with hot water showers.
Amenities & Inclusions The island experience is focused on the pristine marine environment:
Whale Swimming: As a licensed operator, the resort offers low-impact whale swimming tours (July–October) departing directly from the island, giving guests a head start over operators coming from the mainland.
Marine Activities: Excellent snorkeling in a protected coral garden right off the beach, sea kayaking to nearby uninhabited islets, and cave swimming excursions.
Gastronomy: The main "Fale Restaurant" serves a table d'hote menu featuring organic, locally grown produce and fresh-caught seafood.
Exploration: Two major hiking trails lead to an ancient tomb and an upper plateau offering 360-degree views of the Vava'u archipelago.
How Private Is This Island? Eueiki Island is a true private sanctuary. With only eight bungalows on 48 acres, the guest density is exceptionally low. There are no roads, no noise pollution, and no day-trippers from the mainland. While you may occasionally see a sailing yacht anchored in the deep water channels nearby, the beaches and interior trails remain exclusively for resort guests. The 45-minute boat buffer from the town of Neiafu ensures that once you arrive, you are in a secure, water-locked world where the only schedule is the tide.
