Spectacle Island

Spectacle Island is a private 5-acre gem located in the heart of Frenchman Bay. Perfectly positioned to offer views of the Schoodic Peninsula and the distant Cadillac Mountain, it offers the ultimate Acadia experience without the crowds. The island is beautifully landscaped with native wild roses, blueberries, and towering pines. It is a place where time is measured by the tide and the passing of the local lobster boats. This island is particularly popular for families or couples who want a high-end, "private estate" feel while remaining close to the charming village of Winter Harbor.

Accommodations & Design The cottage is a masterpiece of New England shingle-style architecture. The 2026 interior updates have maintained its historic warmth—featuring beadboard walls and hardwood floors—while integrating modern comforts like high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi and updated kitchen appliances. The Great Room is the focal point, anchored by a massive floor-to-ceiling fieldstone fireplace. Outside, the wrap-around porch provides a "porch-swing" lifestyle, offering sheltered spots to watch the sunrise or the moon reflect off the harbor.

Amenities & Inclusions Spectacle Island balances wilderness living with thoughtful amenities.

Boating: Use of the 22-foot "Spectacle" motorboat is included (for those with boating experience), allowing guests to zip into town for dinner or explore the coastline.

Leisure & Nature: The island features a private beach for shell-hunting, fire pits for evening s'mores, and hammocks tucked into the spruce groves.

Gastronomy: A fully equipped gourmet kitchen includes everything needed for a traditional Maine lobster bake.

Discovery: Guests have easy access to the Schoodic Point section of Acadia National Park, which is often much quieter than the Mount Desert Island side.

How Private Is This Island? Privacy at Spectacle Island is secure and serene. While the island is visible from the Winter Harbor shore, the surrounding water creates an absolute barrier to the public. There are no other houses on the island, meaning the entire 5 acres are your private playground. The dense perimeter of trees provides a natural screen, ensuring that even as you watch the local harbor activity, you remain tucked away in your own sovereign sanctuary.
