Spruce Island

Spruce Island is a retreat designed for large families and groups who crave a "back-to-nature" experience without sacrificing space or architectural character. The island’s heart is the Stone House, a magnificent structure built from local granite that feels like a natural extension of the Maine coast. Operating entirely off-grid via a sophisticated solar and wind power system, the island encourages guests to "unplug" from the digital world and reconnect through campfires, island-hopping, and exploration of the Merchant's Row archipelago.

Accommodations & Design The property is comprised of two distinct buildings located within a short walk of each other.

The Main House (Stone House): A soaring, open-concept space with cathedral ceilings, a massive granite fireplace, and a professional-grade kitchen. It features a "crow's nest" on the roof for 360-degree views and one bedroom.

The Guest House: Located adjacent to the Main House, this building contains six bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom, ensuring privacy for multi-family groups.

The Primary Suite: Located in the Main House, the Primary Suite offers the most direct access to the grand living space and the island’s primary hearth. It features sweeping views of the surrounding islands and the sounds of the Atlantic.

Design: Rugged Maine aesthetic with heavy timber beams, natural stone, and comfortable, lived-in furniture designed for communal gatherings.

Amenities & Inclusions The island is a playground for both children and adults:

The Main Hall: Equipped with a 92" movie screen and surround sound for rainy-day entertainment.

Marine Fleet: Four kayaks and a rowboat are provided for exploring the calm waters around Stonington.

Outdoor Leisure: Horseshoe pits, badminton, ping-pong, and a collection of pirate costumes for children’s theatrical play.

Exploration: Easy boat access to nearby Green Island, which features a freshwater quarry perfect for swimming.

How Private Is This Island? Privacy at Spruce Island is profound. With 80 acres of land and only one residential compound, your group has exclusive use of the entire island. Access is restricted to those with private boats, and while you may see lobster boats working the nearby ledges, the island’s interior and beaches remain entirely your own. The off-grid nature of the property and the 15-minute boat buffer from Stonington create a secure, water-locked sanctuary where the primary neighbors are bald eagles, ospreys, and the occasional seal.
